The Grambling State University football team wrapped up its fourth practice of fall camp on Saturday at the GSU Practice Field.
The Tigers, who open the season on Sept. 3 at Arkansas State, are looking to rebound off a 4-7 season in 2021 and are ushering in a new coach this season in Hue Jackson.
Jackson has been impressed so far with the work ethic of the team.
“This team is competing and I think that’s where it starts,” Jackson said. “They are allowing our staff to coach them. I think the guys are buying in to what we are doing. We understand we have a lot of work ahead, but at the same time, I’ve been impressed with our offense, defense and special teams. We are just starting to forge an identity of who we can be.”
Jackson said it is a bit too soon to identify the standout players through these first four practices.
“It’s all too soon. We haven’t even put on pads,” Jackson said. “We’ve been in shorts and shells. There hasn’t been any tackling, but it’s been competitive with a lot of energy. You are starting to see some guys show some personalities in who they are and I think that’s what you what at this time.”
Grambling State will practice in shorts and shells on Sunday before the first day of pads on Monday morning.
The Tigers begin the 2022 season on Saturday, Sept. 3in Jonesboro, Ark. against Arkansas State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. from Centennial Bank Stadium and fans can stream the game live on ESPN+.
